Dans le district de Demak, au nord de Java, des villages entiers ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 submerg\u00e9s par la mer. En effet, ces territoires littoraux ont \u00e9t\u00e9 fragilis\u00e9s par la d\u00e9forestation massive des mangroves littorales, essentiellement due \u00e0 l\u2019abandon de la production de riz au profit de l&rsquo;aquaculture depuis les ann\u00e9es 1980. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D\u2019apr\u00e8s les pr\u00e9visions de Wetlands International, si rien n\u2019est fait, en 2030 plus de 70 000 personnes pourraient \u00eatre impact\u00e9es par la mont\u00e9e des eaux et 14 000 ha de terres pourraient ainsi \u00eatre submerg\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Concepts clefs du projet&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Le projet \u00ab&nbsp;Building with Nature&nbsp;\u00bb vise \u00e0 r\u00e9duire le risque d&rsquo;\u00e9rosion et \u00e0 stabiliser ces zones c\u00f4ti\u00e8res fragilis\u00e9es, en utilisant des solutions fond\u00e9es sur le vivant d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es en partenariat avec les communaut\u00e9s locales. Ce vaste programme a \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en place par un groupement public-priv\u00e9 d\u2019acteurs, tels que la fondation Ecoshape, l\u2019ONG Wetlands International, les communaut\u00e9s locales (en particulier les agriculteurs) et le gouvernement indon\u00e9sien qui a soutenu cette initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019un des principaux objectifs de ce projet est de construire une multitude de barrages naturels afin de retenir les s\u00e9diments et pouvoir ainsi restaurer les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes de mangrove qui permettent de stabiliser les c\u00f4tes. Ces barri\u00e8res temporaires semi-perm\u00e9ables sont con\u00e7ues \u00e0 partir d\u2019un assemblage de pieux en bois et de fagots de bambous qui permettent \u00e0 la fois d\u2019amortir les vagues, de capturer les s\u00e9diments, recr\u00e9ant ainsi le processus d&rsquo;accr\u00e9tion. A plus long terme, lorsque le niveau de la c\u00f4te sera suffisamment stabilis\u00e9, les mangroves pourront alors se r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9rer naturellement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le second objectif de ce projet est de mettre en place un mod\u00e8le d&rsquo;utilisation durable des terres, car c\u2019est l\u2019une des causes profondes des probl\u00e8mes d&rsquo;\u00e9rosion c\u00f4ti\u00e8re dans le district de Demak. Plusieurs actions sont alors engag\u00e9es avec la communaut\u00e9 locale, afin de travailler ensemble \u00e0 la diversification des moyens de subsistance pr\u00e9sents sur leur site, comme la culture d&rsquo;algues, l\u2019\u00e9levage de crabes et de crevettes, avec une aquaculture durable, etc. En \u00e9change d&rsquo;un engagement actif dans la restauration de ces milieux, les communaut\u00e9s re\u00e7oivent un soutien financier pour pouvoir d\u00e9velopper leurs \u00e9conomies et recr\u00e9er ainsi des socio-\u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes autosuffisant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Suite du projet&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>La ceinture de mangrove qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 progressivement restaur\u00e9e, vient d\u2019\u00eatre reconnue comme milieu \u00e9cologique \u00e0 pr\u00e9server, elle est maintenant consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme une zone prot\u00e9g\u00e9e. Ce premier projet pilote, qui fait cohabiter en \u00e9quilibre la pr\u00e9servation des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes de mangroves et l\u2019aquaculture, doit \u00eatre suivi par trois programmes de formation \u00e0 destination des acteurs locaux des communes voisines, afin d\u2019essaimer l\u2019initiative sur d\u2019autres zones c\u00f4ti\u00e8res.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pourquoi on en parle&nbsp;? <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous aimons cette initiative car elle associe les probl\u00e9matiques de pr\u00e9servation des milieux \u00e9cologiques \u00e0 celle des enjeux socio-\u00e9conomiques de ces zones c\u00f4ti\u00e8res, cr\u00e9ant ainsi une approche plus r\u00e9siliente car elle int\u00e8gre la population locale comme garante de la protection de ces milieux. Les habitants sont impliqu\u00e9s et soutenus dans cette d\u00e9marche sur le long terme permettant la r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de la communaut\u00e9 et de leurs \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De plus, ce projet promeut une approche frugale de la r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ration des socio-\u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes, en utilisant des techniques de construction ancestrales, peu co\u00fbteuses, rapides et bas\u00e9es sur des mat\u00e9riaux locaux. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mise en perspective<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Il serait\nint\u00e9ressant d&rsquo;\u00e9tendre et adapter cette approche \u00e0 d&rsquo;autres zones littorales\nvoisines, qui ont des probl\u00e9matiques d\u2019\u00e9rosion similaires, et de l\u2019int\u00e9grer dans\nles plans de gestion des zones c\u00f4ti\u00e8res.
